HIFF in your living room!
Now’s the time to curate your own dinner and a movie pairing. The highly influential Hawaii International Film Festival launches HIFF@HOME to bring HIFF to the comfort of your living room. The Covid-19 pandemic postponed the festival’s spring season events. But no worries HIFF@HOME starts April 24 with Driveways directed by Andrew Ahn and starring Hong Chau, Lucas Jaye and Brian Dennehy.
Anderson Le, HIFF’s artistic director and brother of one of our favorite chefs (Andrew Le of Pig and the Lady and Piggy Smalls) says this is the right film for the times “Driveways is an intergenerational character drama that is gentle, measured and a lovely story about lonely people finding empathy and humanity with one another. It’s a perfect film to show during “shelter-in-place” lockdown.”
Award-winning actor Brian Dennehy, plays a Korean War vet who befriends a young neighbor played by Lucas Jaye. Dennehy passed away on April 15.

The film’s director Andrew Ahn is a Korean American filmmaker born and raised in Los Angeles. His debut film Spa Night received the 2017 John Cassavetes Independent Spirit Award.
